Conor McGregor set to lose Lighweight title

One Punch

La Times journalist, Lance Pugmire, today published a news article with a quote from Dana White stating

“That’s exactly right: As soon as one punch is thrown, it’s on for the full title and it’s only fair,” White said. “They’ve both worked their way up to No. 1 and No. 2. They deserve a shot.”

This quote is directly related to the Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov fight set for April 7th at UFC 223.

The reason behind McGregor not being stripped of the title as of yet is due to the injury prone nature of the fighters involved in the main event.

Mcgregor hasn’t fought inside a UFC Octagon in over a year and many people believed with him holding the title but not defending it, in turn, was holding up the division.

Return

White believes McGregor will fight in the UFC again and when he does, it will be for a title, Mcgregor “will be back … and when he comes back, he will fight for the title.”

“Conor does want the belt, he does want to be the champion, but he doesn’t want to defend it, I’d love to see him fight the winner of Ferguson-Khabib next.”

McGregor, no doubt will return, a match with the winner of Ferguson vs Nurmagomedov in summer or towards the end of the year would definitely be on the cards. As soon as news of a McGregor fight being set up surfaces, the media wheels will start turning, the hype will be back and the fans will resurface.
