1.For the readers who don’t know you, give us a short introduction.

I’m Scott “Boom Boom” Malone 6-1 amateur 1-1 pro based at dmma and fight for Shooters Dundee with a background of 2x judo commonwealth gold medals and a purple belt in bjj.

2. You Started your pro career with a loss how did that affect you and how did you build on that.

It hit me quite hard mentally specially coming off my last ammy fight a loss too, it gave me the drive and determination to train harder BUT then i had pull out after pull out so I actually took some time out the enjoy my life and spend the deserved time with my family and friends. I then got the hunger back that drove me to my last win I believe.

3. With judo being a part of your skill set, do you feel this gives you an advantage or do you feel it is just a good base to have all round for mixed martial arts.

Yeah it definitely helps my game but most people have a background in something before starting mma and like them it also has its downfalls in mma, for example being in a turtle in judo is a relatively safe place to be for judo but for mma it’s one of the worse positions.

scott-malone4. How hard is it to balance owning a business while pursuing a professional fight career.

I genuinely couldn’t do it alone and I couldn’t thank Martin Watkins enough for the things he does whilst i’m in camp. He also does mma and knows what it’s like when you are training for a fight and cutting weight so he takes charge and lets me do my thing. Not only that but we both work our day jobs on top of that so the little time we have we put everything into it.

5. You recently appealed for sponsors, how was the reception to that, did you find success and positivity in the experience.

I have had a good bit of success with sponsors through my new management team ‘Kings fm’ that have lined me up with ‘Blueberry nutrition’ Ben sorts all my dietary stuff and keeps me eating clean and ‘Python Fightwear’ that have kitted me out with more quality training gear than I can imagine. I had a little bit of success on my own with a few company’s ‘Kenzo Shop Fitting’ , ‘Westend Flooring’ I’ve have had great help from ‘Jana kitchen’ who have continued the support throughout and is helping me on the business side of things.

6. Being a flyweight do you find any difficulty in finding match-ups and also you have had your fair share of cancelled bouts, how frustrating is this and what do you do mentally to keep the high intensity training up.

I am actually trying to both weight categories I feel a lot more comfortable at bantamweight plus there is more fights out there. Maybe for bigger and better shows I may fight flyweight again but for now i am comfortable where I am. Yeah the whole pull out situation sucks i have basically given up the last year and a bit of my time training for fights that haven’t happened I’ve had 7 pull outs in the last year! I just keep training hard and getting more rounded until another one comes along.

scott-malone-sfc7. Are you primarily looking beyond Scotland for opportunities in other English, Irish or European promotions or are you happy just taking fights when you can get them, no matter the location.

I don’t mind fighting in Scotland but I am looking to fight guys outside of Scotland as i like to travel to different clubs and train with local guys and try and be the best rounded mma fighter i can be. I also really want to make it in the game and I never will just fighting with on the local scene.

Thanks for the time, anything else you want to promote, upcoming fight details etc go for it.

I have a fight this coming Saturday on CSFC in Doncaster against their home town guy Adam Bramhald who is a talented fighter. Also like to thank all the guys at Shooters Dundee ,Scottish hit Squad and Higher Level for letting me train with each of you and to my management Kings FM who have done a great deal for me in a short space of time. I appreciate the help from everyone and am really happy with the way things are going right now.
