Featherweight title shake up, McGregor out, Aldo in, new 206 main event

Tonight during the UFC event in Melbourne, Australia, it was announced that Conor McGregor has been relinquished of his featherweight title and interim champion Jose Aldo takes his place. Also announced, Anthony Pettis will take on Max Holloway in the new main event of UFC 206 which will be for the interim featherweight title, the winner of that fight will then go onto fight Jose Aldo at some point in 2017.

It looks like the reason behind the title relinquishment is due to the main event of UFC 206 falling through because of a groin injury suffered by Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier but an official statement as to why McGregor has lost the title has yet to be made.

Current UFC 206 fight card:

Max Holloway (16-3) vs. Anthony Pettis (19-5)
