Beast for Business? Brock Lesnar’s UFC Return Not Quite There Yet.

Return of the beast?

The rumours of Brock Lesnar’s return may be short lived, yesterday there was talk that Lesnar had re-entered the USADA testing pool and that a rerun was imminent, with some even saying at the next UFC event at Madison Square Garden. Today all they hype seems to have been shot down in flames just as quick as they surfaced.

Lesnar’s one year suspension for doping is currently on ice as he retired during his suspension, if he comes out of retirement then his suspension would be unfrozen.

In doing so he would have to serve the remaining time in full before reapplying to enter the USADA testing pool with a letter to both UFC and USADA. Even with the letter and re-entering the pool, he still has at least 6 months left on his suspension so if he was to re-enter, it would be 2018 at the earliest before there is any chance he competes again.

UFC vice president of athlete health and performance Jeff Novitzky spoke to MMA Fighting  saying

“If he ever re-entered the program, he’d have to serve [the duration of the suspension] before he’d be able to compete,”

Not So Fast

It all seems pretty straight forward, if Lesnar comes out of retirement, he serves what is left of his suspension then has to reapply to USADA to enter their testing pool. Once he has done that, he then has to pass their pre-fight tests on the lead up to his next fight but it all seems hypothetical now with Lesnar currently still in retirement.

Lesnar is one of the UFC’s biggest draws and last fought at UFC 200 in July 2016 defeating Mark Hunt via Unanimous Decision, the victory was overturned however, to a no contest and Lesnar fined 10% of his purse.

Lesnar seemed pretty settled with his decision to retire and all this talk of him returning does seem very out of the blue, considering the short time that has passed since he decided to retire.
