UFC Dublin: Krzysztof Jotko v Scott Askham

Krzysztof Jotko v Scott Askham

They played “Tell Me Ma” before the fight to perk the crowd up. Remember Askham’s Barmy Army from UFC Berlin? Well they’ve made the trip to Dublin and the small pocket of about 30 fans is doing a good job of rivaling the whole arena when it comes to making noise!!

Round 1 – chants of there’s only one Scotty Askham! Back elbow thrown from Kris – different! Tentative start. Kris beautifully ducks under a wild Scott left and gets the takedown. Scott using a single butterfly half guard to try sort things out. Kris in the closed guard throwing elbows. Scott grabs the fence to get up. Referee doesn’t care. Beautiful throw off the cage from Kris but he’s in a triangle. Scott switches to armbar and its right! Kris strangely postures up and throws shots in the armbar. However he does escape and end the round on top. Dicey for a minute there. 10-9 Kris – although the armbar was close, his two takedowns and positional dominance sealed the round.

Round 2 – Scott just misses a head kick but lands a low one. Both guys land in an exchange. Jumping knee connects for Scott. Spinning liver kick misses for Kris – different! Lots of single strikes; no combos. Kris ducks a head kick and lands a lovely left hook. Nice right for Kris. Scott drives Kris to cage. Nice knees for Scott. Kris reverses position. They break. Scott lands a front kick to the ribs and Kris starts taunting!? Not a lot going on. Lovely left from Scott. 10-10 – nothing between them there at all.

Round 3 – Scott misses a head kick and Kris misses a wild left. Lovely left from Scott at the end of a flurry of missed shots. YORKSHIRE chant fills the 3 Arena! Both land knees in a brief clinch. Nice front kick to the face for Scott who is doing everything so far. Big shoot from Kris and they’re on the fence. Incredible grappling exchange against the fence results in both men being separated. Nice counter left from Scott. Scott pins Kris to cage. Nice head positioning. Scott has dominated the wall fight for a good while now. They are broken up by ref. Nice right from Kris. Kris ends with a nice flurry and a spinning elbow but not enough.

10-9 Scott – clearest round of the fight. I score it a draw but 29-28 either way would be a justifiable score. Rounds 1 and 3 were clear. Round 2 is the key Krzysztof Jotko def Scott Askham by Split Decision Fair enough from judges. Close.
