UFC Glasgow: Brian Gallacher interview

Who do you think will be in the UFC from your gym in 5 years?

Whoever stays the course and puts in the correct the work. We took Paul from no experience to UFC. If anybody wants to get to the same place they just need to put in the hours on the mat.

 

Is it frustrating to see friends of big star fighters getting their UFC chance before arguably more deserving guys, Chris Bungard for example?

Not frustrating at all it’s just how the business works sometimes who you know gets you there.

With a fighter in the UFC now, do you feel the door of dialogue is open so to speak, and it’s easier for guys at your gym to get a foot in the door?

Its good to have contacts within the UFC. Guys need to be good enough you have to prove yourself on the European and local circuit before you get in.

 

Have any fighters on the card reached out about training at Scottish Hit Squad when they are over?

Not yet i think it is still early for that. Most likely get a message the week before

 

With UFC Glasgow closing in, how is the atmosphere in the gym?

The atmosphere is always good in the gym we get a good laugh and train hard. It’s big motivation being in our home country.

The podcast is doing well we get a lot of interest and messages. It won’t be as often leading up to the fight as we will be having full concentration on the fight

 

With numerous fighters competing soon and the gym being busy do you find much time out with training for hobbies or just time to relax?

Coaching isn’t just an hour class here and there. It’s morning to night dealing with a load of different issues throughout the day. My rest time is spent eating with the family and walking the dogs
