UFC Glasgow: Co-main event and main event announced

Today the UFC announced the co-main event and main event for UFC Glasgow.

Set for the main event spot, Gunnar Nelson will take on Argentinian Santiago Ponzinibbio, Nelson is coming off a submission victory over Alan Jouban at UFC Fight Night 107.

Ponzinibbio may be unknown to some but he has been grinding  away in the UFC since 2013 having 8 fights and only losing two of them, this fight is sure to be exciting.

Nelson is known for his ground game but Ponzinibbio is also a black belt in BJJ so things could get interesting on the ground where this fight will ultimately end up. Not the biggest names the fans may have been expecting for the main event slot but none the less an exciting fight.

Also announced today, the co-main event between Joanne Calderwood (11-2) and Cynthia Calvillo

Calderwood suffered her second professional loss back in September to top contender Jessica Andrade but will look to rebound in a big way on home soil against Calvillo. Calvillo is fairly fresh in the professional scene but is currently 5-0 with a mixture of subs and TKO wins, her last two wins have come by rear naked choke.

Calderwoods last two defeats have came by submission, both camps will be well aware of this and will be interesting to see how the fight plays out.

The atmosphere was electric last time the UFC were in town, with another Scottish card featuring prominent Scottish fighters, you can be sure the fans will blow the roof off once again.
