Nate Diaz eyeing potential August return

The last time we saw Nate Diaz was way back in August 2016, losing a majority decision to Conor McGregor, since then he has been on the sidelines. Reportedly talks have begun for Diaz to return at UFC 227 in Los Angeles, Aug 4. Arial Helwani confirmed from “multiple sources”  that Diaz wants to be on the card with names being put forward for him.

The two big guns, Khabib and Mcgregor seem to be off the list but going down the next few fighters, show potential matchups. Tony Ferguson is obviously not on that list with his knee injury but other than Ferguson there are some big names for Diaz, the main ones seem to be Eddie Alvarez, Dustin Poirier and Kevin Lee.

Diaz longtime training partner, Jake Shields was on the MMA Hour this past Monday and said: “He’s looking for a fight that makes sense and that’s going to give him a big payday and a lot of hype.”

Out of the fighters mentioned the one that stands out is Kevin Lee, from promotion to rankings it all makes sense for Diaz to fight Lee. Lee and Diaz would no doubt provide some fun post fight build up to get Diaz the payday he is looking for as well as putting him straight into title contention with a win.

Outwith those potential fights there’s always the trilogy with Conor McGregor but as of right now, that fight doesn’t seem to be in the works according to Shields “He’s not just looking for Conor,”

Diaz is a fan favourite and with this new, fans should be hopeful to see him back in the Octagon in the not too distant future.
