Palhares (18-6) was defending his title against Jake Shields (31-8) in the main event of WSOF 22, Palhares rolled Shields on the mat locking in what at the time was a great Kimura but when Shields tapped and referee Steve Mazzagatti jumped in to single the fight was over, Palhares appeared to crank the submission harder.

WSOF president, Ray Sefo confirmed the news with MMA Junkie today and said this of the future of Palhares and the title

“At this point, it’s unclear what steps Palhares needs to take in order to lift his suspension. An October bout between one time title challenger Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami, set for WSOF 24, could decide the next welterweight champion, Afromowitz said, but no formal decisions have been made.”

The actions of Palhares have been well documented and the outcry to have him banned has been unanimous between fans and fighters.
