*UPDATE* UFC launching new women’s 125-pound division (with a Twist)
UPDATE
So it appears this news may have been sent to outlets a little prematurely and the new 125-pound division is currently “under consideration”
We will keep you posted on any breaking news on this new division.
Released today was the news that the UFC will be launching a new 125-pound woman’s division.
“A new division will be created and a new champion will emerge from the next season of The Ultimate Fighter®. Women’s flyweights, between the ages of 21-34 with a winning record and at least three professional fights are invited to attend the open casting call in Las Vegas.”
The champion will be crowned on a new season of The Ultimate Fighter, with a slight twist.
“The season will also be open to females on the current UFC roster that can successfully make 125-pounds throughout the duration of the season”
Fighters change weight classes fairly often for a variety of reasons but it will be interesting to see if many, current, UFC fighters make the jump to this weight-class giving the fact initially they will have to go through a season of “The Ultimate Fighter”
Applications are open here and filming begins in July.
