Immortals Fight Promotions 4 – Fight Talk Scotland Preview

On Saturday February 28th, Mixed Martial Arts action returns to Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom in the form of Immortals Fight Promotions 4. Each of their three events have been an improvement on the one before it and looking at the card, there’s no reason that this weekend’s event shouldn’t continue that pattern. The card offers a mix of Professional and Amateur fights featuring fighters from many of Scotland’s most prominent teams and also a good mix of international fighters, continuing the Immortal’s theme of their cards always having an international flavour.

We’ll be there providing Play by Play which you can follow by liking our Facebook Page which you’ll find by clicking HERE

Here we will have a detailed look at some of the standout fights;

Professional

1

Maciej Linke (Linke Gold Team) (10-4-1) vs Phil Flynn (Manchester Predators) (7-14) at Lightweight (70.3kgs)

The main event pits Immortals veteran Maciej Linke, sure to have a huge following in the crowd from the local Gold Team contingent, against Manchester’s Phil Flynn, who some of you may remember from his fights on Scottish soil against Kieran Malone & Neil Laird. Flynn has also shared the cage with UFC veteran Andy Ogle.

Whilst on paper the records may make this look a bit of a mismatch, Flynn has fought a lot of top guys and whilst he is currently in the midst of a tough streak, he will certainly prove a tough out for BJJ Black Belt Linke whose battle in this one will be to take Flynn down – all of Linke’s 4 losses have come by KO whilst Flynn himself is the owner of 4 KO victories in his career. Indeed, in 21 career fights, Flynn has NEVER gone the distance and Linke has only gone the distance twice, so this main event is as close to certain as can be to deliver a finish for the fans in attendance.

2

Dale Middleton (Results Gym, Forfar) (0-0) vs Piotr Maniak (Linke Gold Team) (1-1) at Light Heavyweight (93.0kgs)

In the co main event of the evening, promising Scottish debutant Dale Middleton will take on another relative newcomer in Piotr Maniak. This one is sure to split the crowd with the Scots in attendance backing Middleton and the strong Gold Team presence making noise for Maniak. Middleton has been travelling the country getting the best training in he can and having grappled with him before, Maniak is in for a tough time if this goes to the ground. Great to see a new Scottish Light Heavyweight professional looking to make a mark.

Amateur

3

Helen Copus (2-0-1) (GCG, Aberdeen) vs Charlotte Park (2-0) (Griphouse, DNFT) 65kgs Catchweight

In what I would say is arguably the most interesting bout on the card, the two best Female MMA fighters in Scotland not named Joanne Calderwood will meet in the featured amateur bout. Both are undefeated, both are solid grapplers regularly winning gold at local grappling competitions and both have handed out quick defeats to their MMA opponents in the past. Somebodies “0” has got to go and credit to Immortals for getting this match put together and it’s sure to be an evenly matched entertaining display of skill.

4

Dawid Kostecki (Immortals) vs Graeme Salazar (Team Parente) at Lightweight

Local favourite Kostecki is a veteran of both Immortals shows and numerous other Scottish shows. Kostecki is one of the busiest amateur fighters out there and shows improvement each time out. With his local crowd behind him, he’ll be looking to get the win against a tough opponent from one of the busiest teams in Scotland.

5

Kam Cheng (Fusion MMA, Gold Team) vs Connor Imison (GCG, Aberdeen) at Bantamweight (61.2kgs)

In what is sure to be an entertaining bout for fans of grappling, experienced Kam Cheng takes on the debuting Connor Imison. Last time I saw Kam he racked up an impressive quick finish at The Art of Combat and he also recently won double gold medals at a prestigious NAGA event. Connor, 18, has stepped up on short notice and regularly gives me fits in the gym, so look for this one to be a frantic, action filled bout.

6

Craig Mitchell (Immortals) vs Calum Owens (House of Pain) at Catchweight of 98kg

It’s always fun when the big boys clash and this should be no different. Every fight starts on the feet, so fight fans are guaranteed to see the big boys swing for the fences, and Mitchell is always dangerous on the ground – look for this one to not go the distance! The rest of the card is below

Donald (Titan Gold Team) vs Simon Kelly (Team Parente) at Lightweight (70.3kgs)

Anthony Smyth (Titan Gold Team) vs Paul McCulloch (Glasgow Fitness) at Welterweight (77.1kgs)

John Proctor (Titan Gold Team) vs Danny Patterson (Results Gym, Forfar) at Bantamweight (61.2kgs) – EXHIBITION CHARITY BOUT

Justin Thain (Arena Gold Team) vs Alexander Wylie (Newlife Gym, Glasgow) at Lightweight

Aaron Towns (Results Gym, Forfar) vs Kieron Laidlaw (Dundee Shooters) 58kgs Catchweight
