Jeremy Horn Seminar @ Shooters Dundee – Preview
This Saturday, UFC and MMA Legend Jeremy Horn returns to Shooters Dundee for the third time to conduct his annual seminar. Of note, Shooters is the only gym in the UK Jeremy has taught at.
Chances are, if you’re reading this article, you’ll have an interest in MMA. Thus, you will of course know who Jeremy Horn is. However, if you do not, here are some of his credentials and career highlights.
Horn has fought 117 professional MMA fights, fighting in organisations such as the UFC, WEC and Pride, to name but a few.
Of his astonishing 91 wins, 62 were by submission. In other words, his grappling is world class.
Whose he beat I hear you ask! “Bet I’ve never heard of them!!”
Chuck Liddell (submission), Chael Sonnen (3 times – by submission twice and TKO once), Gilbert Yvel (decision) and Forrest Griffin (KO via head kick). Those are just 4 of the people Jeremy has defeated in MMA competition.
Anderson Silva. Randy Couture. Big Nog. Dan Severn. Frank Shamrock. Ricardo Arona. Babalu. Rousimar Palhares. Horn fought all of them and was only finished by one of them.
Indeed, the one to finish him was Frank Shamrock when Jeremy fought for the UFC world title at UFC 17 at only aged 23. To put that into the insane perspective it merits – I’m 24!!
You get the picture – Jeremy is as credentialed in MMA as you’re going to get. I certainly can’t remember any other former UFC title challengers with a resume like Jeremy’s teaching a Seminar in Scotland.
So if you’re one of those people who judges a seminar on the achievements of the person coaching – this isn’t one you want to miss.
However, if you’re like me, and you judge a seminar on the quality of the coaching, well, this is DEFINITELY not one you want to miss.
I attended Jeremy’s seminar not knowing what to expect. I wound up being blown away by what I learnt and still use the mount escape details Jeremy showed me to this day.
That’s what I was most impressed with at the seminar – the fact that unlike many other “big name” coaches who conduct seminars, Jeremy didn’t teach fancy combos or chains of moves that would make nobody in the room any better, but might make them think “oh wow, that was cool!!!!!!!” Jeremy looked at one position (mount bottom), watched everyone in the room spar the position and broke it down to it’s core, and everyone who attended that seminar improved in that position. He didn’t need or care to impress people with fancy techniques or feel a need to reel off 100 different things. He was there to make people better at grappling. He succeeded.
It was one of the best seminars I’ve attended and changed my game – I can’t say that about most seminars I’ve attended.
But I’m just a schmuck blue belt – why take my word for it that this is an opportunity not to miss!? Among Jeremy’s students are former UFC champions Matt Hughes, Jens Pulver and Rich Franklin. They all chose to train with Jeremy, as well as countless other UFC fighters have done. He must be pretty good right! How many opportunities will there be in Scotland (or even the UK for that matter) to train with someone who has coached three UFC champions?
I’ll guess not many. None infact.
Oh, and just like other big names who do Seminars, Jeremy will not roll with you at all. Oh wait, no that’s wrong. Jeremy after the seminar stays back and rolls with anyone who wants to roll.
